Hydromx®, is a revolutionary heat transfer fluid that replaces water or glycol in hydronic heating, cooling and solar systems. The unique formula improves thermal performance and improves energy efficiency. In heating systems this results in reduced energy consumption of up to 35%!

Hydromx® is a new category of Energy Efficiency product that applies to Commercial and Domestic heating and cooling systems and to Industrial applications where more efficient heat transfer is of benefit.

Hydromx® is an energy saving solution that is mixed with water in a ratio of 50:50 and used in heating and cooling systems to improve heat transfer and reduce energy consumption.

Hydromx® can be used in all water based (hydronic) heating and cooling systems as a heat transfer medium (excluding steam based systems).

Hydromx® uses leading-edge nanothermotechnology and a protected formulation to improve heat transfer and works in concert with the room/radiator thermostats and the boiler/chiller controls to reduce energy consumption.

By transferring heat more efficiently the system heats up, or cools down, more quickly. As a result, thermostats turn off sooner and the system changes its on/off cycle to save energy. There is a lot of complex science operating at the nanothermotechnology level, but in summary it really is that simple!

Hydromx® has been proven to increase comfort and save energy over the years. Hydromx® does not harm people or the environment and will inhibit oxidation and calcification in your heating system. Hydromx® increases the efficiency of your heating system by reaching the desired temperature settings more quickly and will keep that temperature longer. This special benefit will reduce energy cost as well as reduce carbon emissions.

After technical reviews and system protection reporting process, Hydromx® has been insured by one of world the largest insurance company called ACE.

BuildCert is the Product Certification arm of WRc-NSF, a testing and certification organisation based in the UK with over 75 years experience of water supply. They put their knowledge of plumbing systems to use for you, by examining, testing and certifying water fittings. Their independent checks ensure that when you buy BuildCert Approved products, you can do so with peace of mind.

Hydromx® has passed the BuildCert Chemical Inhibitors Approved Scheme and can use the BuildCert logo in the UK.

According to BuildCert:
"The longevity and efficiency of water heating primary circuits and boilers, including central heating systems, can be greatly improved by the use of chemical water treatment. The purpose of these treatment fluids in central heating systems is to:

  • inhibit corrosion of vital metallic parts such as pipes and radiators,
  • prevent scaling up of the system, and in particular the boiler.

In addition the fluid should not cause damage to plastic and rubber components of the system and should have a low environmental impact.

All chemical water treatment fluids certified by BuildCert are tested against the standard specification for the performance of chemical inhibitors for use in domestic hot water central heating systems drawn up by industry experts to ensure that inhibitors satisfy a minimum performance requirement. BuildCerts quality assurance requirements check that every bottle of water treatment fluid sold with the BuildCert CIAS logo on it performs as well as the last. BuildCert CIAS Approval allows boiler manufacturers, installers and consumers to have peace of mind that their hot water system are protected.

The Carbon Trust (The UK) is a valuable source of information on all things carbon. They provide a conversion factors guide to help you calculate your organisation's carbon emissions - with guidance on how to convert energy use and carbon emissions into common units. Carbon Trust conversion factors.

As gas is burnt to heat the water in a boiler carbon dioxide (CO2) is emitted into the atmosphere. These conversion factors state that for each kWh of gas used 0.1836 kgCO2 is released.

Therefore 1 tonne of CO2 is emitted for every 5446 kWh

Any reduction in gas consumption will reduce carbon emissions by the same amount.

According to the United Nations Environment Programme: One hectare of trees can absorb 6 tonnes of CO2 a year, at about 100 trees per hectare.

By reducing the amount of carbon fuels burnt for space heating, the amount of CO2 emitted is reduced. The amount reduced can be equated to that absorbed by a tree in a year, and hence the reduction in the number of trees we have to plant to bring our planet back to equilibrium.

According to the UN Billion Tree Campaign: See their Fast Facts here

To make up for the loss of trees in the past decade, we would need to plant 130 million hectares (or 1.3 million km2), an area as large as Peru. Covering the equivalent of 130 million hectares would entail planting approximately 14 billion trees every year for 10 consecutive years.

The net forest loss per day is 20,000 hectares or the equivalent of an area twice the size of Paris. This adds up to 7.3 million hectares per year.

We calculate that a representative house emits 3.7 tonnes of CO2 a year from heating. That would require about 60 trees to absorb the CO2. Use of Hydromx® could save up to 35%, that's about 20 trees per house.

The most effective heat transfer solution of Hydromx® is to mix it water in a 50:50 ratio. There are some exceptions to this, see

The amount of Hydromx® can be estimated by calculating the amount of water in the system components, the radiators/fancoils, boiler and pipe work. This can be done from drawings or after a short site survey.

Examples

  • a typical 3 bedroom domestic house uses 60-70 Litres of water requiring 30-35 Litres of Hydromx®
  • a block of 700 flats uses 54,000 litres of water requiring 26,000 litres of Hydromx®
  • an education college uses 10,000 litres of Hydromx®
  • a large (7,000 member) social club with restaurants, lounges and health spa uses 8,000 litres of Hydromx®
  • a district heating system uses 50,000 litres of Hydromx®

Every building has its own characteristics so that water volume cannot be calculated by looking m² only.

There are several methods which can be used to calculate the volume of water in a hydronic heating or cooling systems.

However, these methods are not always 100% accurate due to inaccurate or incomplete systems information and variations in measurement techniques.

Consequently, we recommend to use at least two methods at the same time for accuracy.

Hydromx® has at least 8 years lifetime subject to compliance with the instructions of use, good maintenance of concentration levels of Hydromx®, and avoidances of abnormal use and/or alteration. It is recommended that you contact your installer for any necessary follow-up action after 8 years of use.

Hydromx® operates correctly at concentrations between 45% - 60% so in many systems there is no need to top-up the concentration levels for many years after installation. However, we do recommend at least annual maintenance checks are carried out on the system. The Hydromx® and water solution can be tested to ensure it matches the concentration at the time of installation and any adjustments can be carried out.

Additional, e.g. pH tests, and more regular checks may be required for some systems as recommended by your installer or heat engineer, for example with aluminium components.

Hydromx® is a carefully formulated chemical solution which has taken many years of research and develop to the point where it delivers up to 35% energy savings. The manufacturers strongly recommend that no other chemicals are used with the Hydromx® heat transfer fluid as these can impact on performance and may have unknown effects on the system.

Note: No other chemical products are necessary within a heating system as Hydromx® has built in calcification, corrosion, microbiological and frost protection.

If you have any specific requirements please contact us: [email protected]

It is not often necessary or desirable to fully drain a system during maintenance operations. Individual radiators, or sections of the system can isolated for the majority of operations.

Hydromx® is a valuable heat transfer solution with a long life expectancy and should be reused whenever possible. The solution can be drained and stored in suitable tanks (plastic collapsible tanks are recommended for large heating systems) and the system refilled again after the maintenance is completed. During this operation the concentration of Hydromx® should be checked and adjusted with additional Hydromx® where necessary in order to maintain the highest efficiency savings.

There are two different packaging types,
For commercial users we provide IBC (1 Tonne)
It can be stored as non-dangeours chemical and it is non-explosive.
It is also classified as non-dangerous good for transportation.
